"Why are you wearing so much makeup?"
"Are you going for a date?"
"Is this how you impress boys?"
"Man, we're only going for grocery shopping. There's no need to put makeup on!"
As someone who loves doing makeup; who sees makeup as a gem; who gets all excited whenever she goes to Sephora, those words annoy the hell out of me. Never in my life I'm doing makeup for people's sake. I'm doing makeup for myself. I always look forward to another day because I cant wait to put makeup on my face. Doing makeup is a therapeutic routine that keeps me happy.
One day my team mate was going through a long distance relationship phase with his significant other, and he was totally broken. As usual, he appeared at the office barefaced. Then, as he started applying foundation, he said: "Walaupun lagi sedih, gue harus tetep dandan, pakai foundation. Soalnya gue jadi happy banget. Tuh liat, gue otomatis senyum kan."
I spent the last one year working in a cosmetic retail company. I was so amazed to see how people in my environment embrace and appreciate beauty. It's common to see guys applying foundation and drawing their brows. I learned a lot that there's nothing wrong when it comes to beauty. Makeup is all about preferences. You like your lips to look bold? Or you are into the nudes? The choice is all yours. You do what you gotta do as long as it makes you happy.
As I worked for Estee Lauder, I got to know about Violette; the Global Beauty Director for Estee Lauder. She portrays the brand so well as she embraces natural beauty.
Below are her thoughts about beauty, and I couldnt agree more to everything she said.
